About CECU

UPIMAC established a National Civic Education Resource Centre for the DGF supported education partners and other stakeholders such the National Library of Uganda, and public and community Libraries. In addition UPIMAC has set up an interactive web-based and physical repository for civic education resource materials. The purpose for establishing the resource centre is to develop and disseminate a standardised civic education curriculum and related IEC materials and actively encourage their use.

The Electoral Commission has warned against the creation of militia groups ahead of the 2016 presidential elections.
The EC boss Eng Badru Kiggundu sounded the warning early today, in the wake of reports that a military officer and a politician are involved in the illegal recruitment of youths.
Over the past few weeks Major Roland Kakooza Mutale has been involved in the recruitment and training of youths under the Kalangala Action Plan (KAP), ostensibly to ‘protect’ President Yoweri Museveni’s votes in 2016.

The recent DGF voter education evaluation-2016 revealed that 65% of the respondents voted as a result of the voter education efforts by DGF Partners. The Civic Education Coalition of Uganda (CECU) - a loose association that was initiated in 2014 by 18 civil society actors and state institutions like the Judicial Service Commission and the Office of the Prime Minister (Information and National Guidance department) - took form and got registered.
